The Queshtarii consist of 9 tribes each dedicated to the riders of type of animal determined at the Saectu or rite of passage, undertaken in the 14th winter of life. During the Saectu, a youth ventures by himself into the desert and finds his feras, or life beast; The youth’s feras determines his tribe. Perhaps 1 in 20 youths never returns from this journey. The tribes are not of equal size, some are split into several clans like the Terus or camel riders, the Belus or hyena warriors and the Aqunus, the horse masters; others are extremely small like the legendary Drakon who ride the famed Drakoneth, whose numbers have been as low as 6 tribesmen and rarely see more than 2 youths a year. Somewhere in the middle for size are the Angu or snake riders, the Lecert or lizard tamers, the formcae or ant farmers, the Scoran or scorpion lords and the Giranem or spider knights. The Formcae numbers are at an extreme low at this moment as they resisted the longest against the cult of Akran and suffered heavily for it. The clergy can come from any tribe but Akran’s clergy have typically come from the Lecert and they have remained the most common tribe for priests to come from.
As always comments welcome. Stats for the Drakoneth will be posted in a few hours when they are done.
