From the ruins of the occupying doppelganger force that infiltrated the Ionian empire centuries ago, a new society arose. These doppelgangers understand that full scale invasion has gotten them nowhere and that they number too few to head an expansionist empire of their own; instead, they have embraced their changeling offspring as allies rather than servants and formed the mysterious cabal of thieves, spies and assassins known as the cabinet of faces.
Organisation:
The cabinet of faces is headed by a coven of six greater doppelgangers, these powerful beings were adept in arts of deceit and trickery and managed to escape from the Ionian purge that followed the war. This ruling body of the cabinet of faces is said to communicate with Olidammara himself and revere the god of rogues with every contract that the cabinet fulfils. Each of the six ruling members directly commands a group of six doppelgangers and changelings called visages, each of these thirty six visages oversee a sect of lower ranking members, forming a network of thousands of members spread across Celenor.
The six ruling doppelgangers never interact directly, instead using their astonishing telepathic abilities to meet either in a psychic link or another realm of existance entirely-none but they themselves are certain. They are spread out around the continent and dwell in Raudia, Ionia and Gorandon but as of yet have no presence in beria.
Operations:
The actual goal of the cabinet of faces is unkown to all but the six ruling members and Olidamarra himself, however the group’s other activities are more well known. The cabinet deals with political coups, assasinations, espoinage, “aquiring” items of interest and other tasks that clients and other guilds simply can’t (or won’t) do themselves.
Acquiring the services of the cabinet is not an easy task, since it is Impossible to seek them out, the cabinet instead comes to clients after hearing that they need something doing through their web of informants. A contract is agreed upon and gold (or other more valuable forms of payment) changes hands, these contracts are religiously important to the cabinet and Olidammara is said to bear witness when one is signed.
Membership:
One does not actively seek membership in the cabinet of faces, afterall doing so would involve finding them, or even knowing of their existence. Instead; the cabinet keeps a watchful eye out for changelings (or very rarely, doppelgangers) with potential. They look for traits that would put off other organisations, such as being self-serving, manipulative and most importantly subtle, as well as looking for more traditional traits such as being able to work as a team and adaptability. Potential members must not subscribe to the three typical changeling philosophies, instead using their abilities as tools for their own benefit rather than abusing or hiding from them.
When a potential member is selected the cabinet contact them and set them a task; this could be anything from disguising yourself as someone for 24 hours to assassinating and replacing someone of little importance. Most whom are contacted are eager to join and are convinced through promises of riches and new, powerful abilities.
Prestige class, the cabinet trickster:
The class is as-written from the races of Eberron book for 3.5, however one of the prerequisites is different in this setting since we saw the feat required as pretty useless.
Prerequisites for cabinet tricksters in Solnarion:
• Race- changeling
• Skills- disguise 9 ranks
• Feats- Quickchange (ROE pg110)
• Special- You must complete a task for the cabinet, the nature of this task is up to the DM
